Finding Assessments in Mastery Connect

1. Log in to Mastery Connect
2. Open the tracker where you wish to add the assessment
You have the ability to add any assessment that has already been made in the district, unless a teacher has marked the assessment as "Private to Me."

From the tracker you want to add an assessment to, click on the "Add Assessment" button

3. Click on "Find a Common Assessment.
4. Type in the name of the assessment here
If you know the name of the assessment, click in the SEARCH box. If you need to add additional filters, such as grade level, do so until you find the assessment you wish to add to your tracker

5. Once you have the correct assessment, click on +Add To Tracker
Once you add the assessment, it will show in your tracker on the far right end of the tracker, since it was the last assessment entered.

You can move the assessment to the location you want by clicking on the handle on the title of the assessment and dragging to the location you wish the assessment to show.

Edit photos online with Pixlr

Looking for a good tool to edit photos? Maybe you want to change the tones. Maybe you want to crop the photo. Maybe you want to size it down so it looks better on the web. For people who work with photos a lot, Adobe Photoshop is the go-to program. However, there is a photo program online that has most of the tools you need from Photoshop and looks very similar if you are familiar with the former. It's called Pixlr. Check it out there at the link.

If you'd like an online tutorial on how to use some of the features, search Youtube or even google as there are a variety of resources out there for you.

Secure Password Generator and Apps to Store Your Passwords

Looking to strengthen up your passwords. Here are a couple tips that can help.

1. Use a website like: https://identitysafe.norton.com/password-generator/ to generate your passwords. They will be much more complex than ABC123 and will be much more likely to keep your info safe.

2. While passwords like the ones generated from the link in #1 are great to have, they are not fun to memorize. Never fear, there are some tools out there like Dashlane and 1Password to help. Check out the applications and what they have to offer. If you have any questions, don't hesitate contacting me and I'll be glad to assist.

How to show CC on your SmartBoard with DVDs

Subject: Showing Closed Captioning
I had a representative from Schillers come out to help us with our closed captioning (CC) woes.  The Sign Language Interpreters informed me that some of you were having trouble getting CC on a DVD.  Here is my advice if you are showing a DVD:  play it through your computer and not your DVD/VHS player.  If you go through your computer (and your computer is hooked up to your SMART Board speakers), you should either have the option of selecting English subtitles or CC.  Here are the steps to follow:

1.                   Put the movie into the DVD drive on your computer and show it through your computer, not the DVD/VHS player.
2.                   Go through MY COMPUTER and click on the DVD symbol.  The movie should start showing on your computer screen.
3.                   On the Play Bar at the bottom of the screen (where you see the -> to play, the box to stop, and the || to pause), there will be the letters “DVD” in all caps to the left.  Click on that.
4.                   Select “special features”
5.                   Select “captions”
6.                   Select “closed captioned”

You do not have to go through the above steps if the movie has “Language” as an option on the movie menu; you can select it and find English subtitles (using your mouse) as an alternative.  If you are showing a movie that does not have English subtitles (and we found some that do exist), you should be able to follow the above instructions and get CC.

Let me know if you are having any difficulties after following the above steps.

As for showing VHS tapes and getting CC…we’re still working on that.  It looks like the only option for now is to:  a) find another, more update movie on a DVD with the same content, or b) hook up the cable from your VHS player to a TV/VCR combo as you have been doing.

Angie Gunnell just sent out an email pertaining to purchasing DVD’s to support your curriculum…perfect timing.  Take this as an opportunity to purchase those newer movies on DVD format (if available) that have CC.

As most of you are aware, equal access to all information is the law (ADA).  Call me or ask your friendly Sign Language Interpreter to assist you.

Thank you,
